Fair Go! Military collectibles show is a must-see for collectors

8 July 2008

It has played a role in human history and dedicated military historians and collectors seek to keep the many artefacts of war, including guns, medals, badges and uniforms, preserved.

The Ballarat Arms and Militaria Collectors Society has organised the 19th Eureka Collectables and Militaria Fair to give other enthusiasts and collectors an opportunity to see some military history.

Fair organiser Nick Smith said there would be some rare items at the fair.

Mr Smith said he did not know if there would be one "hot" item that would grab the attention of other buyers.

"That's the beauty of it. You don't know who is going to bring what.

"We love keeping history alive and, unfortunately, military side of life is part of history, it's a sad fact of human history. If we don't keep it alive nobody else will."

The fair will be held on Saturday at the Woolshed Exhibition Centre, Western Hwy, Ballarat.

It will be open from 9.30am to 3.30pm. Admission is $7 and children under 16 are free. For adults wearing full military uniform admission is free.
